Self Storage Tips
Our friendly and professional site managers have the expertise to make your storage experience a pleasant one.  Here are some hints to get the most out of your stay with us.
GENERAL
  • Make a list of what you will be storing so the manager can help you accurately determine the storage space you need.
  • Never store food or items that attract pests and, for your safety, never store hazardous materials such as flammable liquids.
  • Label boxes on all sides. Keep a list that details the contents.
  • Plan your storage. Store frequently used items near the front.
  • Fill boxes to avoid tipping or crushing when stacked, with the heaviest on the bottom.
  • As a preventative measure, we strongly recommend using D-CON to keep pests away.
  • Use a moisture-absorbing product in your unit to keep your possessions dry.
  • Use a high quality cylinder lock on your door. Cheap locks rust and do not provide good security.

Using Your Storage Room Effectively

Giving Some Thought To The Use Of Your Unit Will Pay Big Dividends
  • Do not lean items against the walls. Leaving a space around the unit's perimeter will allow air to flow freely.
  • Leave a walkway to the rear of the unit. This will give you more flexibility in adding and removing items.
  • Use all the vertical space available to you (most units have approximately 9' ceilings). This makes efficient use of the space and allows you to easily see everything that's there.
  • Disassemble awkward items such as bed frames for more compact storage.
  • Mirrors, windows and screens should be stored on edge (not flat). This makes efficient use of the space and prevents damage due to breakage or warping.
Appliances
  • Make sure that refrigerators and freezers are thoroughly clean and dry. Store with doors slightly ajar to prevent mold growth.
  • Consider storing items inside large appliances to increase available space.
  • Use the space on top of freezers, stoves and refrigerators for boxes.
Bedding, Clothing, and Other Fabrics
  • For best results, store clothing, curtains, and drapes on hangers. This allows better ventilation and prevents wrinkles.
  • If items cannot be hung, make sure they are clean and carefully folded.
  • Consider the use of desiccants (such as Damprid, available for sale at our locations) to combat dampness.
  • Wardrobe-style boxes allow you to store items on hangers but still move easily.
Furniture
  • Store couches on end, chairs seat-to-seat, and tables upside down with legs pointing up. We recommend the use of dust covers (available in our retail center).
  • Place a pallet or cardboard on the floor and stand sofas and mattresses on end. This will increase available space while protecting the fabric.
  • Disassemble bed frames and tables to make them more compact. Wrap table legs in paper to prevent scratching.
  • If tables cannot be disassembled, place a moving blanket on the floor and set the table, top down, on it.
  • Store small, delicate items or linens inside dresser drawers. Use the dresser tops for boxed items.
  • Keep upholstery off the floor to prevent moisture wicking and soiling.
  • Stack lightweight chairs "seat-to-seat" or place them upside down on tables that cannot be disassembled.
  • Place light dust covers over your furniture.
Lamps
  • Remove light bulbs before storage to prevent accidental breakage.
  • Wrap large lamp basses in padding to prevent breakage. Smaller lamps can be wrapped and placed into boxes for extra protection.
  • Pack lampshades separately to avoid damage to the shades or the top of the lamp.
